Lighthouse Keeper
A few years ago Mike and I watched the movie The Light Between Oceans (it’s linked in this post) and the lighthouse keeper’s life completely captivated me. The cinematography, the clothing, the weathered picket fence in the garden was stunning and every minute of the movie swept me away.
Even though the storyline is about a deep moral issue about a found baby, I could not help but get lost in the idea of what it would be like to live on a lighthouse island. I am certain the solitude would be a life-changing liberation from modern stressors but also equally suffocatingly lonely at the same time.
Being a lighthouse keeper is something that none of us will likely ever experience, but I do believe deeply that we can find ways to create a similar beauty and peace in our lives no matter where we live. It could be a vintage wool sweater, a seascape playlist or one of the items in this week’s Curated that you can bring into your home.
So I’m curious, would you be a lighthouse keeper for a season, for a year, for a lifetime if offered? It’s such an interesting notion to ponder and definitely takes a hearty human spirit. My answer - I would definitely love to try for a whole year - to experience all the seasons and all the emotions and all the beauty.
p.s. Did you know there are lighthouse vacation rentals scattered around the country? The last image in the post is a link to your options. So perhaps you could pretend to be a lighthouse keeper for a short bit afterall!
Post Script Motto
While it’s great fun to unbundle the newest package, please remember there is a special peace living simply and humbly - balancing between being content with what we already have and saving for something special that sparks joy. So with that, be thoughtful and live curated.
