Mountain Road Trip
10 years ago, in the middle of December I drove solo from Illinois to California to bring home my dream car I’d purchased from a used car salesman. I logged 10+ hours each day, driving through cities and corn fields and following the tire tracks of semi-trucks through a snowy mountain pass in Wyoming. The adventure wasn’t exactly the romantic version of a roadtrip I’m painting here today, but what I learned from that 4 day trip was that I was more capable than I ever thought I was and something important changed in me during those 2,000+ miles.
Where would you travel?
Would you go solo or bring a buddy?
I hope this Letter inspires a roadtrip in you - whether it’s for weeks or just a day. Happy travels!

Excerpt from The New American Road Trip Mixtape:
“A guy told me once that everbody needs a grand tour; some time away from the walls you’ve constructed around yourself, to shake you out of your routine, show you your real dreams, your story. I found a story - maybe the only one I really needed.”

While it’s great fun to unbundle the newest package, please remember there is a special peace living simply and humbly - balancing between being content with what we already have and saving for something special that sparks joy. So with that, be thoughtful and live curated.
This newsletter and 2 prior ones--the one about small houses--really struck a chord with me. Personal circumstances have me currently feeling somewhat imprisoned and in great need of escape. The day when I can take either a long respite in a tiny cabin in Maine, or a grand tour to all of the beautiful places in this country I've never been, will eventually come. In the meantime, thanks for helping me to dream and do a little bit o' armchair traveling.
